Grey LA

a gloomy day in lalaland today. almost feels winterlike.

the house has vetoed the second half of the bailout funds. now i do agree there must accountability. if we just do what bush did, then the new administration better be prepared to be very clear about where that money is going and why. i believe a tax rebate at this point in time is like spitting in the wind and calling it rain. jobs will generate income which will generate spending and taxes. it so seems like a no brainer. and i went to school for theatre.

i think the big fat butthead award today should go to rush limbaugh.

Bruised and battered

i'm doing the same work i was doing 30 years ago and my body is not happy. there's something wonderfully gratifying about physical labor, even satisfying in its resulting stiff muscles and aching joints. but i think i'd find far more delight in it if i could recover quicker.

oh my.

Oi

the end of my evening. good wine and a movie. ready for a book and sleep. a great meeting today. Good conversation with people i've never met. another good show with rachel maddow. how fast she's been able to influence. thank goodness for smart people.

andrew wyeth has been taken from us.

so tomorrow i work physical labor. and sunday too perhaps. then i need to do rewrites.

curious to hear folks thoughts on bushie leaving office. my view is "oh god thank you. and where were you eight years ago. but that's me.

tomorrow friends.,

Holy Cow

i can't believe how long it's been. why, the last time i logged in here was in april of last year as i was prepping to go to cannes with my short. so much has happened since then. some pretty major goings-on.

and not with me. kinda sorta.

barack obama was elected. and since i can't be in washington for the big party, i'll be at home all day watching the tube and twittering.

my new fav--twittering.

new website coming up soon. will let folks know when it's complete. my friend dana is designing it and she is a killer designer.

hang on. will be back for more later.

What one goes through...

So far today, I've been wooed by a rep at the Hollywood Reporter (I'd place an ad just because he was so darn good at persuasion)
updated all my pages on various sites (though I'm sure I missed a few) and made contact with some really cool people. Sometimes you have to do business to do art.

I'm going to Cannes

The short film I just directed is being shown in the Short Film Corner at Cannes this year. So now, most of my time is being spent getting ready to do the dance. The networking dance. Setting up meetings. Getting a good flight. A place to stay. All that mishegas.

I've been to Cannes twice. The first time was fun. I saw movies. Drank wine at the Majestic. Ate moules frites. The second time I spent a lot of time in the Marche. What an amazing zoo that is. I saw more movies. Drank wine at the Majestic. Of course, ate moules frites. This time, I'm sure I'll do all of the above and more. More meetings. And then more meetings. More networking. Less sleep. Ahh! Cannes.

Otis says where you been girl?

Okay so I've been a blog bailout. The past few months (oh alright the last year) have been a busy one. I directed two shorts, a web pilot, finished one feature script and writing another. All in all, a pretty fantastic time.

I'm now in the throes of figuring out the networking game.

How does one network when one really isn't all that social? I think you basically have to like people in order to strike up a conversation with someone you don't know at a function where everybody knows everybody except you? I don't care how many cocktails you have, doing it isn't easy. I have a theory that it's not the cool looking people you need to be talking to. No, it's the ones that look like you--nerdy, kind of shy, uncomfortable looking ones.

Unless of course it's Angelina.
